| Castle Hill Lighthouse
Castle Hill Lighthouse in Newport, Rhode Island was
constructed from granite in 1890 to mark the eastern passage
of Narragansett Bay. The tower is 34 feet tall and the
focal plane is 40 feet. It was fitted with a fifth order,
fresnel lens, flashing a red light visible for 10 miles.
The light was automated in 1957 with modern optics.
