Ocracoke Lighthouse in NC was built in 1823. It
replaced the original 1803 lighthouse which was a wooden tower built
on Shell Castle Island and destroyed by lightning. Ocracoke
Lighthouse is 75' tall and is the oldest operating lighthouse on the
NC coast.
