Bald Head Lighthouse "Old Baldy"
was built in 1794 as North Carolina's first lighthouse. The
present structure was activated in 1817 after the original
lighthouse was lost to erosion in 1813.
The present lighthouse was deactivated in 1930 and its optics
(lens) was removed.
