Outer Banks Snow Dunes At first glance, this appears
to
be a peaceful view of snow on the dunes at the Outer Banks.
But, if you look closely you can see how the wind is whipping up
the snow in the background. Also, the ocean was very angry on
this day.
The snow storm of the century came to the Outer Banks on
January 23, 2003 dumping 9" in Kitty Hawk and 13" at
Cape Hatteras. It was the largest recorded snow fall in
one day.
